1. Who are the street children?
|
The definition of a street child is
any boy or girl for whom the street has become his or her habitual
abode and/or source of livelihood, and who is inadequately
protected, supervised, or directed by responsible adults. It is
estimated that there are between 100 million and 150 million street
children in the world. (This outnumbers the population of many
countries!) Street children are often the victims of sexual abuse,
violence, and exploitation. They lack access to adequate health
care, nutrition, and hygiene. (

2.
Do street children have families and/or relatives?
|
Yes, the majority of street children
having a living relative. In fact, approximately 75% of street
children have some type of contact with a family member. However,
these children are left on their own to survive. Their basic needs
are not provided and they do not live in a stable, protected
environment, thus the street has become their source of livelihood
and survival. The other 25% of street children have no contact with
a family member and are considered children “of” the street. They
sleep under bridges, in doorways and public plazas. (

5. What is Home Sponsorship?
|
Home Sponsorship is the financial
support of a home for orphans and street children. Funding is raised
to support all costs associated with running the home including
food, clothing, education, utilities, staff salaries, and
administration. Home Sponsorship is raised through a team of
individuals, business, organizations, and/or churches who commit to
the financial monthly sponsorship of a home. (

6. What is the difference between Home
Sponsorship and Child Sponsorship?
|
Home Sponsorship and Child
Sponsorship have the same fundamental goal of funding the welfare
and education of disadvantaged children. A child sponsorship
program asks a sponsor to support a specific child for a designated
financial amount monthly. A home sponsorship program asks sponsors
to join a team that together support the full functioning of a home.
At Global Impact we have found that
home sponsorship is more efficient than child sponsorship for both
the home and the sponsors. The Home Sponsors are able to be involved
in the life of the home instead of just one child. Updates and news
are sent regularly to Home Sponsors regarding the children, the
director, the staff, volunteers, home activities, special needs, and
various other information.
Another benefit of home sponsorship
is the capacity for efficient and straightforward financial
disbursement to the needs of the whole home. A home is not
dependant on more children to have more money (as in the case of
child sponsorship). Also, if every child in a home is not supported
through child sponsorship then the question is raised how should the
home properly divide the funds between those children who are
supported and those who are not. This is not the case with home
sponsorship. The home is supported, not individual children, and
financial decisions are based on the needs of the home as a whole. (

7. What does the Home Sponsorship of
$2000/month supply for LTCF?
|
It will supply for the daily needs
of the children such as food, clothing, and education. In addition
it will provide for all costs associated to running LTCF such as
staff salaries, utilities, and administration. A small percentage
(15%) of this money will be used by Global Impact for administrative
costs and to further develop it’s program with LTCF and other orphan
outreaches. ( Top ) |
8. Does LTCF generate any financial support for
itself?
|
Yes! LTCF recently started it’s own
livelihood project selling peanut crunch (similar to peanut brittle
but much better!). The children help to make the peanut crunch and
it is sold at a small booth in a local mall. (
